Bellanca's Library

I've been "meaning" to get back here and post for several months. Somehow, it just hasn't happened. I'm not using my actual library very much as a library right now. The books are still there but I've been spending far more time practicing my fiddle music and working on scrapbook pages for the grandparent gifts. I start prepping for Christmas in October and I've got one large scrapbook project, one grocery store trip and one trip to Target left to do before we're basically good to go.

Well, Santa also has to assemble a wooden kitchen set on Christmas Eve.

I feel like I've been doing nothing but work from a to-do list for two months and I couldn't tell you the last time I read a new book. I've done a ton of rereading of my Stephenie Meyer's books and once I sickened of those I hit HP 7 again. I am trying to read Eaters of the Dead by Michael (?) Crichton but I'm making about 3 paragraphs progress per trip to the bathroom. It's mostly just candy reading for me.

Last week I was talking about the Twilight books with an acquaintance and we both agreed we could not figure out why we enjoyed those books so much. The quality of the writing is pretty atrocious at times - not a dig at Stephenie Meyers but at her editors - is no one telling her to rein it in on occasion? I used to keep track of how many times Edward smiled crookedly in the first book and in the third book you could take a drink each time Bella used the word "pain" (not a synonym for pain but the actual word) in Eclipse and earn yourself a trip to the ER for detox.
Despite the often dreadful writing I have a ton of fun every single time I pick up one of the books and I actually experience a heart splutter during a few of the scenes. If nothing else, Stephenie Meyer has completely zeroed in on the secret dreams of Everywoman's high school experience.
